Loft Conversions Success Story 4 - Jean Moy
Jean and her family have recently completed a delightful loft conversion
which featured a dormer, and more unusually a tube
light.
The new conversion features a beautifully finished large double bedroom and bathroom. Like so many people who have had a loft conversion, the real reason behind it was to add some much needed space to the house, although they realised that by undertaking the project they would see a good return on the investment.
‘According
to Halifax's valuers a loft conversion can be the best value for money home
improvement – Loft conversions can add as much as ten out of ten,
in terms of value of money, if the property is located in the right area
and the project is properly managed’ Home improvements where they
matter 29 May 2006. See news articles.
When Jean and her family of 3 daughters all under 21 moved to their
house in Woodford it was clear that some more space would eventually be
needed. One of her daughters had to settle for a smaller box room which
understandably with teenage daughters was not ideal. Jean had thought that
there was a problem with space, but was not really sure what the solution
would be until she stumbled across a television programme which detailed
the entire process of getting a loft conversion, and the improvements it
can make both in terms of space, and adding value to a property. From that
point on, Jean and the family were convinced that
a loft conversion was the answer to their space problems, not to mention
the little issue of sharing a bathroom amongst 5, ‘there poor old
Dad never got a look in!’ said Dawn when describing the time before
the loft conversion was completed.
Once they had decided they needed a loft conversion, it was a matter of what they would have up there. The house is fairly large as can be seen in the photographs, so there were options available. However the family decided that the best option was to have a large double bedroom and en suite bathroom for Mum and Dad. This is the usual solution to space problems, as the new conversion often becomes the master bedroom.
Jean and her husband
already knew who they wanted to do their loft work. DB
Construction was a company they had used before for
an
extension in their previous house, and they had also completed loft conversions
for two other sets of friends. DB
Construction have also been a trusted customer of the Loft Shop for
many years and are now a Loft
Shop Partner featured right here at www.loftshop.co.uk.
Jean emphasises, it is very important to trust your loft converter, and
could not be more full of praise for the way DB
Construction conducted themselves throughout.

Once the loft conversion had been completed, according to Jean the transformation was amazing. Suddenly everyone had more space, more privacy, more peace, and there were less arguments, especially over the bathroom.
Jean and her husband moved up to the newly converted loft to take up residence in the master suite, whilst one of the girls moved into their old bedroom, and the box room became a laundry room!
One of the interesting things about The Moy’s loft conversion was
that they used a tube
light. As can be seen in the photographs, on the out side, the tube
light appears very small, but the amount of light it can introduce is dramatic.
According to Jean ‘its brilliant, when the sun shines, it makes the
landings very bright, and revolutionises dark areas as well as cutting down
on electricity – there also seems to be no cleaning required!’
Jean had also seen
the tube
light on the same television programme.
This larger style conversion cost the Moy’s in the region of £40,000 including all the finishing and furniture, but the investment was well worth it according to Jean who thoroughly recommends DB Construction, and the principle of having a loft conversion carried out.
If you are looking to have some loft work done, but don’t know where to begin, The Loft Shop is in the progress of building a list of Loft Shop partners which can be viewed at the following link:
